Academics is a central part of life at of the School of Nursing. We take great pride in offering academic programs that are second to none. As a part of our ongoing commitment to academic excellence, the school recently has begun to offer programs designed to make our graduates more prepared for a modern collaboration-ready work environment. School of Medicine and School of Nursing students are learning together in two areas as a part of the new Interprofessional Education Initiative at the University.
Medical and nursing students work interprofessionally in the new Medical Simulation Center medical to solve and treat a clinical case. Keith Littlewood, MD, Anesthesia, and Dorothy Tullmann, PhD, RN, SON faculty, facilitate learning in simulated acute and critical care settings.
In another setting, students learn in “Difficult Conversations” how to give bad news to patients. Leslie Blackhall, MD, Oncology (SOM), and Jeanne Erickson, PhD, RN, Oncology (SON), facilitate the scenarios as students take turns role-playing.
